Thomas Nicholas (American Pie)
From American Pie to Pop-Punk: Thomas Nicholas on His Upcoming UK Tour & New Music

You’re back in the UK this March/April with your band — what can fans expect from these shows? Has anything changed or evolved since your last UK tour?
Every tour gets a little tighter, a little louder and a little more fun. This run feels like a proper evolution, added some new songs to the set and really leaned into the nostalgia. It’s high-energy, singalong, pop-punk with a bit of storytelling baked in. UK crowds get it, so we always bring a little extra.
For anyone who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you describe a Thomas Nicholas Band show in three words?
Nostalgic. Loud. Fun.
You’re offering meet & greets on this tour — what’s that experience like for fans, and what do you enjoy most about those moments?
The meet & greets are honestly one of my favorite parts of touring. It’s a chance to really connect — not just a quick photo, but hearing people’s stories, where they first saw me or how they found the band. A lot of fans have grown up with me in different ways, whether through films or music, so those moments feel really genuine. It’s less “fan interaction” and more just hanging out.
What’s one moment on this upcoming UK tour you’re most looking forward to?
Kicking things off in Kidderminster with an acoustic show. It actually sold out two years ago, so there’s been this long build-up to finally getting back and playing it. There’s something special about starting a run in a more stripped-down setting, you really feel the room, the crowd, every lyric lands a little differently. And doing that in Robert Plant’s hometown just adds a bit of extra weight to it.
Have you got any new music, releases, or announcements coming up that you can share with us?
Yeah — I’ve been working on my 8th album that lives right in that nostalgic pop-punk lane. There will be some amazing fun surprises of featured artists on this one that I’m very excited about.
What got you into playing guitar and singing — was music always part of your life alongside acting?
Acting was in the lead early on. I picked up guitar as a teenager and it became my way of expressing things I couldn’t really say otherwise. Acting is collaborative but music is personal — it’s my voice, literally. Over time it stopped being a side thing and became equally as important to my film work.
When you’re on tour, do you prefer performing your newer material or the songs fans already know and love?
It’s the balance that makes it work. The newer songs keep it fresh for us, but the familiar ones are where the crowd really locks in. When you hit that chorus and everyone’s singing it back, that’s hard to beat.
If someone’s discovering your band for the first time, which song should they start with?
I’d say “My Generation.” It just crossed a million streams on Spotify, which has been amazing to see, but more than that, it’s one of those songs where you really feel it live. The crowd’s singing along, shouting it back at us, and that energy kind of sums up what the band is all about.
You’ve toured the UK a few times now — what keeps bringing you back?
There’s just an appreciation for live music in the UK that’s different. People show up early, they know the words and they’re all in. Plus, it feels like a second home at this point have played almost 300 shows there out of the of the 1400 shows I’ve played around the world.
I saw you in Bristol Exchange last time — amazing show, by the way. You had that incredible banner on your merch stand… What’s the story behind that? 😂
Haha yeah, that banner was my airport pick up sign from my buddy Sam who runs Hard Up Garage, which you can see on YouTube. Imagine walking out of customs at Heathrow Airport to your friend holding that sign up. It was too good not to keep around, and somehow it’s become part of the show.
When you finished American Pie, did you have any idea it would become such a huge cultural phenomenon?
Yes. It was in my original contract that I would only agree to do the film if it became $1 billion franchise and we made 3 sequels. 😂
In all seriousness, I was just happy to have the a job. In fact I still feel that way every time I have a movie or TV show the film or a show to play with my band. I’m always just grateful to have the gig.
If you had to build a band from the American Pie cast, who’s in your lineup?
I mean, Seann William Scott has to be the drummer pure chaos energy. Or Tara Reid since she already proved she can play in Josie and the Pussycats. A stoic Eddie K Thomas on Bass Guitar with that Krist Novoselic type of vibe holding it all together. Jason Biggs on the guitar will just glue a guitar pic to his hand so he could play lead parts really fast.
Are you bringing ‘the sign’ on this tour? 😂
…you’ve reminded me to bring it. I didn’t bring it on the Wheatus tour last December. I had a bunch of people wondering why I didn’t have it at the Merch table so I won’t make that mistake again.
