Hey Roy, welcome to Review Zoo.

When did you start playing Guitar and what first got you into playing?

I think I first started playing when I was 15, but didn't own my first guitar till I was 18.

I think I got into it because my best friend had one.

I hear you’ve just started a new musical journey, tell us about that. Excited?

Really excited. By far the best music I've written to date.

My new band is called INVICIM.

We're releasing our first single on 28th July called 'Control' with an album being finished and primed for release in November 2023.

The band has a lot of Nu metal undertones and huge choruses. So if you're a fan of that, please, check us out.

Please can you talk us through your set up?

Currently, I'm looking at a new set up. It's a toss between going with the trusty Line 6 Helix or being a bit different and running Neural DSP Gojira along with the backing tracks on a MacBook and have my patch changes automated. The Macbook route has its own challenges, so the jury is out at the minute. But I always gravitate towards a 5150, regardless of what I run through.

Piece of gear you wouldn’t go without?

Currently, it's Winspear strings.

I used D'addario strings for over 20 years and helped Beta test the ERG NYXL series.

But, Winspear makes my life easier getting the right strings for my tunings and scale length.

Highlight of your career so far?

I've been fortunate to play some incredible shows, my highlights are definitely Download 2010 and supporting KoRn.

Favourite Guitar?

My 2002 Ibanez K7. I've owned it for over 20 years and it has never let me down.

It looks a lot different now than stock, but it's such a killer guitar.

Who’s your biggest influence?

I have a few. My main influence is Dino Cazares. A lot of my playing and writing can be attributed to learning Fear Factory songs.

Other influences are definitely Head from KoRn and the late Justin Lowe from After the Burial.

Favourite band?

Fear Factory and Whitechapel are most definitely my favourites.

Favourite album ever?

I can't do just one!

1, Obsolete - Fear Factory

2, The Valley - Whitechapel

3, Darkness in the Light - Unearth

4, This Age of Silence - Anterior

5, Rareform - After the Burial

What are your hobbies in your spare time?

I'm an avid fan of F1 and NBA, so, follow both closely.

Anything you’d like to add?

I also run a guitar setup and repair business called El Beardo Guitar Workshop.

I'm currently looking at creating a subscription service for repeat customers and a pick up and drop off service for customers who are further out.

Check the FB page out for more details.
