Review Zoo catch the Brutal, "Vexed" Live at The Fleece, Bristol

I recently had the pleasure of attending a live show by the UK Metal band Vexed, and let me tell you, it was an absolutely mind-blowing experience that left me in awe of their musical prowess.

Vexed, led by the phenomenal frontwoman and vocalist Megan Targett, delivered a performance that showcased the band's exceptional talent and commitment to pushing the boundaries of heavy music.

Megan Targett's vocal prowess is nothing short of extraordinary. Her ability to seamlessly traverse a wide range of tones and emotions while maintaining crystal-clear enunciation is a testament to her skill and dedication.

Megan's vocals are truly unique, adding a layer of intensity and diversity that sets them apart from other bands in the genre. Her voice cuts through the dense instrumentation, establishing a distinct presence that elevates Vexed to a league of their own.

Guitarist Jay Bacon plays his 8-string guitar with precision, creating a sonic landscape that is both brutal and intricate. The collaboration with the Bass produces earth-shaking frequencies that resonate through the audience, creating an immersive and visceral experience.

The synchronicity between the Guitar and Bass is a testament to the band's musical cohesion and their commitment to delivering a clinically brutal sound.

Behind the kit, Willem proves to be an incredibly tight drummer with pinpoint timing and precision. His rhythmic backbone provides the solid foundation upon which the rest of Vexed builds their sonic assault. The intricacies of Willem's drumming add a layer of complexity to their music, further showcasing the band's attention to detail and musical finesse.

What truly sets Vexed apart is the meticulous crafting of their overall sound. The combination of Megan's unique vocal range, the precision of the guitarist's 8-string Guitar and the thunderous bass frequencies, with Willem's tight drumming results in a sonic onslaught that is both intense and exhilarating.

Megan's vocals, in particular, carve out their own frequency, ensuring that she remains clear, definitive, and prominent amidst the heavy instrumentation. This attention to sonic detail allows Vexed to avoid the pitfall of homogeneity that can often plague other bands in the genre.

In conclusion, Vexed delivered a live performance that was nothing short of breath taking. Their clinical brutality, fuelled by Megan Targett's exceptional vocals, sets them apart as a force to be reckoned with in the metal scene. If you have the opportunity to catch Vexed live, do not hesitate – you're in for an unforgettable experience that will leave you craving more of their unique and powerful sound.
