Hombres, the ninth studio album from Scottish rock heroes GUN, is set for release on April 12th, 2024 via Cooking Vinyl. Declared "some of their best songs since Gallus!" by Iron Maiden's Steve Harris, it is the first album of all new music from the group since 2017’s Favourite Pleasures, which entered the UK official album chart at #16, and features new full-time guitarist, Ruaraidh "Roo" Macfarlane.
Guaranteed to chase away any post-Christmas blues and ensure a lively start to 2024, blast rollicking new single "Take Me Back Home", released today. Stuffed full of riffs, the track is available on all streaming platforms now.
Vocalist Dante Gizzi comments, "'Take Me Back Home' is a song that encompasses all aspects of obsession and determination. I had a deep fixation with a driving arcade game called Outrun when I was a kid. The track relates with the idea of the high octane intensity and the will to complete the next level, which was always within reach but always out of grasp."
The band are also pleased to announce three special, intimate performances in Scotland to tie-in with the release of Hombres. Be one of the first fans to hear the new tracks live! Tickets go on sale this Friday, January 12th, and are expected to sell out quickly. Snap them up exclusively via www.assai.co.uk.
The dates are:
Thursday 25th April - MONTROSE Town Hall
Friday 26th April - GLASGOW St Lukes
Saturday 27th April - DUNFERMLINE PJ Malloys
The thirteen tracks on Hombres were recorded and produced by Simon Bloor (Trevor Horn) with mixing by Daryl Thorpe (Foo Fighters) at Morsecode Studios and Strongroom Studio. The record boasts guest vocals from Beverley Skeete (Elton John, Chaka Khan, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash), Mary Pearce (Primal Scream, Lionel Ritchie, Chaka Khan) and Sarah-Jane Skeete (Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Bill Wyman) of The Sisterhood on several tracks, as well as a guest performance on the drums from Joe Lazerus of Twin Atlantic.
Guitarist Giuliano “Jools” Gizzi enthuses, "This is one of the proudest pieces of work we've ever done, truly it's Gun in its finest form."
Dante adds, “We are proud of the new record and know the fans will love it. We always try to push forward and innovate; it’s essential as it’s how we keep ourselves passionate and excited about making music after so long together. It’s important to bring new blood and fresh ideas into the band, too, and Roo has already added a new dynamic.”
The album is available in multiple formats as both standard and deluxe editions, including on CD, vinyl, and digitally. Pre-order now here.
2024 also marks the 30th anniversary of GUN’s silver-certified, third album Swagger, which stormed into the official UK album chart at #5 and spawned 4 UK Top 40 singles including smash-hit cover “Word Up” (#8), "Don't Say It's Over" (#19), "The Only One" (#29), and "Something Worthwhile" (#39). Their boisterous version of Cameo’s “Word Up” also earnt the group their first MTV Europe Music Award.
Following their Chepstow Castle concert this August alongside Massive Wagons and three Scottish dates in December, GUN are busy lining up more live dates for 2024, with Maid Of Stone and Firevolt festivals already announced for the summer and three album release shows in Scotland in April.
