London’s fast-rising teenage metalcore band Within Reach return with “Hesitate”, a new single and atmospheric video that shows a broader side to their sound.
London’s heavy scene continues to produce exciting young bands, and Within Reach are quickly becoming one of the names people are starting to talk about. The teenage five-piece have been building momentum over the last couple of years, and their latest single “Hesitate” arrives as the first new music from the band in 2026 — accompanied by a striking new video.
If you’ve heard their previous singles “Armageddon” or last year’s bruising “Drip Fed”, you’ll already know Within Reach can deliver riffs with serious weight behind them. “Hesitate” doesn’t abandon that intensity, but it does show a slightly different side of the band.
There’s still plenty here for metalcore fans who like their guitars sharp and their breakdowns heavy. But this time the band give the song more room to breathe, leaning into melody and atmosphere in a way that suggests they’re starting to stretch beyond pure aggression.
That shift also comes through visually in the new video. Instead of the usual dark-room performance tropes, the band pair the track with expansive skies and cinematic scenery that mirror the song’s more reflective tone. It’s a simple concept, but it works — especially after the endless grey weather Britain has been stuck under for most of 2026 so far.
Lyrically, “Hesitate” taps into something more personal. Guitarist and co-vocalist Bailey Dopson says the song was written to explore the way people can lose perspective when life’s obstacles start to pile up.
“I wanted the narrative point of this song to open the listeners eyes,” he explains. “Life has its obstacles and sometimes we get consumed by these things that make us lose sight of what matters and our true selves.”
The lyrics approach that idea from the perspective of those watching someone struggle, highlighting the contrast between how a person might see themselves and how much they mean to the people around them.
“It’s even harder watching loved ones go through these motions,” Dopson says. “I wanted to convey the juxtaposition in value to how someone can view themselves compared to how valuable they are through the eyes of the people around them. The song moved me as I wrote it — I’m confident it’ll do the same for the people.”
Within Reach have already started carving out space for themselves in the UK alternative scene. Their debut EP Pariah landed in 2023 and helped introduce the band to a wider audience, while placements at Download Festival and exposure through dark fashion brand Mary Wyatt campaigns gave their music an early boost.
Industry support has followed. The band were previously highlighted as a Featured Artist of the Week on Kerrang! Radio by Alex Baker and picked up airplay through BBC Radio 1’s Introducing Rock with Alyx Holcombe. They also reached the finals of Kerrang!’s “The Deal” competition.
Live, they’ve been steadily gaining ground too, sharing stages with artists such as Oceans Ate Alaska, Hacktivist, Kid Bookie, Vianova, Avralize and The Narrator.
April will see the band back out on the road again, including support slots with Mimi Barks, The Narrator and Our Promise, alongside a hometown show at Camden’s Underworld — still one of London’s most important proving grounds for heavy bands on the rise.
If “Hesitate” is a sign of where Within Reach are heading next, it suggests a band starting to balance power with atmosphere — and figuring out how to make both hit just as hard.
